kimono ✖︎ triangle bag

At kico, we reproduce the traditional azuma bag for modern times.
The material is kimono, a Japanese treasure lying dormant throughout the country.

triangle bag = azuma bag

The azuma bag is said to have begun in the Edo period, when Edo townspeople who admired Western bags imitated them using furoshiki and tenugui.
As for the origin of the name, “azuma” (also written with characters meaning “east”) refers to “Edo” as seen from Kyoto, and so they came to be called “azuma bags.”
For our future items as well, we will continue to use materials with traditional Japanese roots.

kico's Commitment 1. Pattern

kico's Commitment 1. Pattern

kico's azuma bags use an original pattern with generous handle length
so they can be carried over the shoulder even on top of outerwear.
By changing the position of the knot,
you can shorten or lengthen the handle depending on how you use it,
and adjust it with the seasons, too.
The bag also has ample capacity,
and we are particular about ease of use.

kico's Commitment 2. Design

kico's Commitment 2. Design

Our azuma bags come in 2 types: all-over patterns made from a single kimono, or bicolor bags made by combining two kimono.
Our bicolor bags in particular, a signature of kico, are made from combinations we select from our own perspective, drawing on our own sense of style,
so that they can be used as stylish items that are easy for people today to use.

kico's Commitment 3. One of a Kind

kico's Commitment 3. One of a Kind

Only 1 to 1.5 azuma bags can be made from a single kimono, so we can almost never make two of the same.
That makes each one an original bag that is the only one in the world, just for you, which its owner can grow attached to and use for many years.

Semi-Custom Orders
We also accept semi-custom orders, where you can choose the kimono yourself.
・You can create an original bag by choosing the kimono, bicolor or not, the lining, the size, and more.

You can also bring in your own treasured kimono to have an azuma bag made.

kico's Commitment 4. Lining

kico's Commitment 4. Lining

The lining of our azuma bags [45cm], [40cm], and [long porch] uses a water-repellent, plant-dyed recycled nylon material (the onibegie series by Komatsu Matere Co., Ltd.).
You can use them with peace of mind even for items that may get wet with condensation, such as PET bottles and wine bottles.
